Wow–I can’t remember a more eventful February at Oak Hill Academy! The first weekend in February, we were on Mid-Winter Break, except for the Gold Team, who were in California snapping rival Chino Hills’ 2-year winning streak! Back at home, there was a delivery pizza supper and a first-ever co-ed social on the “boys’ side” of campus for students here during the open weekend.
The JV and Red Basketball teams also racked up wins in February, with the Red Team accomplishing its goal of back-to-back NACA Division 2 National Championships. Way to go, teams! February is also the time we hear about preparations being made for Spring Soccer, and Boys’ and Girls’ Tennis.
February saw a broad range of entertainment happening at our small boarding school–basketball trick star Joe Odhiambo shared his skills and his story with us; the Kenya Safari Acrobats impressed us with their incredible feats; Mr. Massey, Ms. Callison and friend Donna Correll gave us a concert; and the Amazing Dexter charmed us with his magic and jokes. Homeroom music included selections from “Hamilton” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou.”
Clubs continued to meet (Spanish, Cards & Games, Magic) and other clubs got on track for second semester (Youth Group, Ski Club and Debate). Intramural volleyball got started. Advisory groups gathered for activities, some went out to eat, and one group stopped at a local dairy farm for a tour.
Warrior Weekend Feb. 24-26 created a flurry of fun this month, with 18 off-campus trips and 3 special on-campus activities, finishing with a tail-gate type picnic on Sunday evening.
On the same weekend, our Board of Trustees met on campus, and students served friends and guests of the Academy at the Donor Dinner.
Spirit Days fired up, with each Thursday in February dedicated to a dress-down day and lively competitions between classes: Spirit Dress, Pajama Day, Twin Day and Wacky Day; Minute-To-Win-It games, Curling, and the Quiz Bowl. And it’s not over yet–stay turned for March festivities!
