As a new academic year begins at Oak Hill Academy, our equestrian program comes alive—welcoming new and returning riders to an experience built for growth, skill-building, and leadership.
For families seeking a boarding school in Virginia that helps students thrive beyond the classroom, the Oak Hill Equestrian Program delivers a clear advantage.
Oak Hill offers an equestrian tradition that stands out across the United States—providing students a high school experience where learning extends far beyond academics and into the arena, the barn, and the trails.
Flexible Riding Options for Every Student

Participation in our riding program is flexible, giving students the freedom to choose how they want to be involved. Some enjoy the simplicity of trail riding each week, exploring the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains. Others take Horsemanship classes that combine equestrian riding instruction with hands-on experience in horse care, anatomy, and stable management.
For those with bigger competitive goals, our show team offers training in Western, English, and small Hunter/Jumper disciplines. Riders represent Oak Hill in horse showing and other equestrian events at the regional level. Whatever path students choose, the program offers a supportive, skill-building environment designed to stimulate character development and personal growth in every ride.
Training at the Lenore Equestrian Center

The heart of our equestrian program is the Lenore Equestrian Center, a premier indoor riding arena located right on campus. This space allows students to train year-round, no matter the weather.
The center is fully equipped, with stalls, a tack room, grooming areas, a locker room, and space for more than 25 school horses. These facilities give riders everything they need to learn, practice, and care for the animals in a safe, well-maintained environment.
As one of Oak Hill’s longest-running signature programs, the equestrian experience enjoys strong community support—making it both accessible and affordable for our families.
Building Skills That Last a Lifetime

In addition to riding, students take on daily responsibilities in horse care—from grooming and feeding to keeping the stables clean and organized. These routines teach consistency, discipline, and time management, qualities that carry into every part of a student’s academic and personal life.
Among the benefits of horseback riding, riders gain practical knowledge in equine science and equine studies, building a deeper understanding of the animals they ride. They also work closely with instructors and peers, learning to communicate, collaborate, and take pride in shared goals—skills that will serve them long after their time at Oak Hill.
Teamwork, Confidence, and Future Goals

Whether in the barn or the arena, students on our equestrian team learn to support one another, solve problems together, and take initiative. These experiences build confidence, leadership, and interpersonal skills that extend well beyond the riding ring.
As part of our interscholastic equestrian activities, riders represent Oak Hill in competitions while forming lasting friendships and learning to balance responsibility with achievement. Many discover new passions that shape their high school years—sparking future paths in veterinary medicine, animal sciences, or other roles within the equine industry.
More Than an Extracurricular

At Oak Hill Academy, the equestrian program is more than an after-school activity—it’s a structured, high-impact environment where students grow into focused, capable individuals. The combination of strong academics, personalized support, and unique opportunities makes Oak Hill stand out among boarding schools with equestrian programs.
Here, riders develop discipline, confidence, and responsibility alongside their studies, building skills that last well beyond graduation.
